I remember when I was a wee lad living in Shrewsbury that there was a pharmacy across from Spag's, next to Rayco, that had a gigantic penny candy selection. It was the best.
Is there still one in the Auburn Mall?
I remember it was called Help Yourself or something like that.

I think they do have one in the Auburn Mall (and some other malls) but for some reason those places turn me off. I'd rather hit a small local place if possible.
I grew up with a little hardware store in town with a huge selection, plus baseball cards, cheap little toys, those little things you set of fire and snakes grew out of them, etc.
I am also, apparently, an old man.

There is a penny candy store in west boylston Parkers Penny Candy, also a Christmas Shop next door.

Hebert Candies has awesome chocolate. I believe there are locations in Shrewsbury and Sturbridge. This stuff they make is sooo good: www.fullyloadedhocolate.com

There's always Brookfiled Orchards...they have a great penny candy section, and other novelties, as well as hayrides, jugband music, and of course, apple picking.
Oh, and HOT APPLE DUMPLING SUNDAES. Effing bliss.

I second Parker's candys. Small selection but its still cheap and it makes you feel like a kid again. I also remember Help Yourself, I wish that was still around.

There is a candy store on Grafton st. But Ive never been in there.

Brookfield Orchards is the penny candy store I think of whenever anyone mentions one. That was the highlight of autumn when I was a wee lad. Other than that, the Cape has a few "classic" ones with the long rows of jars, bins, etc. where barefoot kids in dripping bathing suits can get a half a bag of candy for pocket change. Ah, good times.

Squirrel Nuts are the best. Along with Mary Janes, Cherry Tootsie Rolls, Strawberry Bulls-Eyes and all the other candies that are only available in sticky handfuls.

I have a love/hate relationship with those little wafer UFOs that contain tiny almost flavorless sugar beads. Those wafers melt in your mouth...I guess that's why I still love them. Kinda.
