Customizable Taxi Service in Worcester
When I first started in the taxi cab business in Worcester, I was told by one of the dispatchers that if you want to get ahead in the cab business, you need to stand out from the other drivers, to differentiate yourself from the others.
After two years of working as an independent contractor in conjunction with Red Cab of Worcester, I've decided to launch my own customizable cab driving services website in an attempt to get more customers, rely less on the dispatcher and provide more reliable transportation at a reasonable price.
You may not like my cartoons, but I can help you get to & from the bar so you don't drink & drive.

Great idea man. I also agree with bruce about the domain. Spend the $9 a year and have it forward to this existing site.
I understand you specialize in customer service but is that enough to get more sales than any other cab driver? To me the site doesn't convey anything else but information, there is no proof. Maybe some testimonials or something?

A mobile version of the site or a special phone number I could use to send you a SMS message for a ride. If I am in a bar, needing a cab it's often really loud so I have to go outside to call for the cab, often it's busy, often it rings forever. A simple mobile site that would allow me to send you a text for a ride, that you could confirm with a text back would be great. Especially in a loud bar, in the winter.
maybe that is too dorky but eventually this will be normal around here.

One of the basic idea for setting up that kind of thing is to pre-plan the ride, using the guy that you can trust will actually show up.
During typically busy periods (rush hour, bar closing time, etc), calling either cab company in town will get you either a busy signal or no answer, depending on just how busy it really is. Then, when/if you finally do get a cab, the driver could end up being a complete loser, a stinkbomb, a fare cheater, or other undesirable pilot through the city's airspace. So, the point is to pre-arrange your ride with Doug, so that you won't have to go through any of that.
Of course, in exchange for pre-planning the ride, you have to give up the spontaneity of taking off when you suddenly feel like it. Although, I see that he does have his cellphone number down near the bottom of the website so you can call him direct...

I once had a taxi driver in Worcester that played trumpet for me. If that guy had a website like this he would pretty much dominate the taxi business in the city.
But other than that good idea Doug. Hopefully you start to do a little better than the average cabbie and it shakes things up a bit.

I for one think this is a fantastic idea and now have a cab # in my phone if I need it! Great thinking out of the box.
Duncan; I'm no techno wiz (i have no idea what SMS stands for) but i would assume you could just text that cell phone #. As for Doug's safety I will be calling him instead of texting as that's not the safest to be doing while driving.

Short Message Service, a text message in other words. The idea is a little more than texting the driver. It's the same outcome but through a different path that would be more reliable for both the driver and the passenger. It could also incorporate the charge via the phone like a ringtone, preventing garbage text messages to the phone.
I researched this a bit on google and it already exists.
As far as Doug's safety, he'll be ok.

Tracy: taxi guys and the online universe... two guys (so far).
Gabe: the trumpet player is, I believe, Manny. He used to drive #55, and I'm pretty sure he's still driving for Red. But I don't know what cab# he's driving these days. I shot some video of him playing "America" in the old lot on Southbridge Street a few years ago... I'll have to find it and upload it to YouTube.
