Silvertone Cafe: For Sale

barry's picture

Erin touched on this last week and I thought I would follow it up with some more info. I opened the Silvertone about 8 years ago, owned it for three years and sold it to Sarah who had been working for me since the first day the place opened. She has had it for over 4 years now. The Cafe (okay, Diner...Whatever!) is in a small strip mall off rt146 in Grafton. Affordable rent, parking, no triple net, decent landlord from town, cheap business insurance, very low overhead and a good steady customer base make this a great business opportunity.
When I ran it we did things like co-sponsor shows at the Grafton Inn, Catered CD release parties at the Lucky Dog, Opened Late Nights for special occasions (after parties so to speak) did lunches for a while, ran pitch tournaments in the evening once a week and even had some acoustic live music there but the bulk of the business was the normal regulars from town. Sarah has just catered to them for the most part and is doing well. It is an all cash business, open 6-11am Mon-Fri and 7-Noon Sat-Sun that has I think 3 part time people plus Sarah. It seats 45 but at one point I had 3 tables of 2 outside. I am not going to get into specifics but it afforded me a nice living when I owned it but health problems forced me to sell it. Sarah is doing well with it but recently got married and wants to move on to the next phase of her life. Who can blame her, she's worked there since she was 17!

Someone could come in and just do business as usual and do well but for someone with some drive and business sense that is willing to do some leg work and promote as well as expand a bit (lunches, catering, longer breakfast hours, special brunches etc) This could be an amazing business. Yes, you can keep the name Silvertone Cafe but it can be changed as well :(

I am happy to publicly or privately answer most questions. I can tell you what I did for business but do not know her figures. I do not know what the asking price is or if there is financing available but you can contact the broker Christy Gibbs at Gibbs Realty 508-886-6100. Please do not contact Sarah directly, she has a business to run.

"...in a small strip mall off rt146 in Grafton..."

I scratched my head on that one as 146 does not run through Grafton.

Did a Google search and found the address to be 156 Main St, which is in the village of Wilkinsonville.

The state state route is 122A.

Good luck with the sale it would be nice if the new owner continued to tradition of hosting and producing live music. I may be interested in some kind of a partnership deal.

It's less than 5min from RT146 but yes, it is on RT122A South Grafton at 156 main st next to Trek Stop Bikes.

Re: Silvertone Cafe: For Sale

To answer a few often asked questions...I had lots of fresh baked goods there but had a local bakery make and deliver them, I also bought stuff through food vendors like Sysco. Most everything I had, breads, meats, eggs, cleaning supplies etc. was delivered to me but to be honest, in many cases it would have been cheaper for me to pick stuff like napkins, sugar etc. up at Costco/BJ's etc. I was just lazy. The total gross/net profit I am stating is from what was reported. It's possible that somewhere along the line while catering and event or something that some items failed to make the official balance sheet. It's probably best to just e-mail me directly at barryd30@hotmail.com.
