Friend Feature

So although I've been around here for a while, I only recently started posting. I received a "friend request." Do people use this feature? What is the benefit? Just curious. I think unless there is a benefit I am all set. That's what all those other social networking sites are for, I come here for the discussions and interesting links.

It's a feature I installed and never really promoted or saw the value in. I may one day incorporate some more social networking type features. Not sure yet. For now, it's just a useless feature.
