Please join us on Sunday, October 24th when the David Wax Museum performs in Our Burncoat Living Room in Worcester, Massachusetts. The David Wax Museum was a surprise hit at this year’s Newport Folk festival.
Their music is a combination of Mexican and contemporary folk. David Wax plays the guitar and Jarana (a Mexican stringed instrument shaped like a guitar). Suz Slezak plays the fiddle and the Quijada (all I can say is it’s an all organic percussive instrument…Google it). Oh, they both sing too.
My impression = they’re a MUSICAL PARTY!!!
5:00pm – 8:30pm

Potluck dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. first set set of music begins at 6 p.m. then we break for desert, coffee, and adult beverages if you bring them. David and Suz will play a second set after desert. We suggest a donation of $15. All proceeds go to the artist.

Join us to meet and mingle with new friends and old with a potluck dinner. You are welcome to bring a beverage of your choice. Tea and coffee will also be available.

Seating is limited, so we ask that you RSVP. For information about the potluck, directions, and reservations, e-mail andy.iflp@yahoo.com, or call Andy Levy at 508-789-8809.

Linda will be out of town coaching at the New England Equitation Championships horse show. She says she will try to make it home for the first set. Please join me in wishing Linda and her clients success and good luck.

NPR on The David Wax Museum’s appearance at this year’s Newport Folk Festival:
"By the time (The David Wax Museum's) set was half over the group had gathered a fairly enormous crowd, which it proceeded to win over in an increasingly big way. Before its set was over, the full band had congregated in the middle of the crowd to perform without amplification; judging by the deafening roar that followed, The David Wax Museum won't need to enter contests much longer." –

From the David Wax Museum web site:
David Wax's circuitous journey from mid-Missouri to the back roads of Mexico to Harvard University inspires The David Wax Museum’s lively fusion of traditional Mexican and American folk music. Tagged as "one of Boston's hottest new bands" by The Boston Globe, they have performed at the Newport Folk Festival, toured with the Old 97’s and The Avett Brothers, shared bills with The Low Anthem, opened for Ben Kweller and Nathaniel Rateliff, and constantly tour around the country.

I've seen these guys play a couple of times, at newport, and a random night at the Lizard Lounge with Ben Kweller. Music is fantastic, and Suze and David are great people. Definitely cool music.

Andy,

Re "The David Wax Museum was a surprise hit at this year’s Newport Folk festival...." you really should get out to Toad more often, they have been performing there for at least 2-3 years.

Glad you are bringing them to Worcester.

Re: David Wax Museum and Neptune's Car House Concert October ...

Ohh man....I get such a thrill out of live music in our Home. David Wax Museum and Neptune's Car exceeded expectations.
Steve and Holly's harmonies were sooo right tonight. What a voice Holly has, and Steve is a genius with a stringed instrument.
and David Wax Museum..what a musical party their act is! Its about time we had a fiddle in our house. As a nregular part of their act, David and Suz circulate in the audience on opposite sides of the room and sing and respond to each other. David stepped outside into the street and sang at full voice, while Suz climbed our stairs and sang from the top landing. When she was about half way up the stairs her voice and her fiddle were echoed in a great way. Suz was surprised and pleased and so were we. She was so impressed she persuaded David to join her on the staircase for their final tune. Th natural re-verb lent an eerie element to their song.
Damn, we are so lucky to get wonderful musicians and great company in our home like that. Thank you David, Suz, Holly, Steve, and the great folks who brought their incredible food and wonderful company!
